Preparing for LANS with Your Mentor(s)

Work with your mentor to hit the ground running at LANS
The Leadership Alliance National Symposium (LANS) will be the culminating event of the summer. At LANS, you will join hundreds of other members of the Alliance community to present your summer research. You will also have the opportunity network with faculty, administrator, and postdocs from across The Leadership Alliance. You can hit the ground running with respect to LANS by engaging the help of your mentoring team on a variety of fronts. First, you will need to receive approval from your summer coordinator and submit your title in advance of LANS. Make sure your research mentor knows that you have this deadline so that you can plan your research accordingly. Postdocs and graduate students at your research sites can be great resources in helping you plan your presentation. And your summer coordinator will have an excellent overview of all things “LANS.” Heed their advice!
Action Items:
- Confirm the dates by which you need to submit your research title in advance of LANS
- Ask your summer coordinator to pair you with one or two “presentation practice peers” from among your cohort. When the time comes to prep for your presentation, take turns practicing your presentations with your peers as audience members.
