The Dana Foundation Neuroscience and Society Scholars (DNSS)

The Leadership Alliance, founded at Brown University in 1992 as a partnership of 23 institutions, came together to develop underrepresented students into outstanding leaders and role models in academia, business, and the public sector. Today, this consortium has grown to 42 academic partners and two private companies and has provided research, mentoring, and networking experiences to over 6,000 scholars. Through The Dana Foundation Neuroscience and Society Scholars (DNSS) initiative, TLA aims to inspire students to pursue interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Neuroscience and Society at the graduate level. For nine weeks in the summer of 2025, a cohort of twelve TLA DNSS Scholars will engage in research at Brown University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Pennsylvania.  Based on interests expressed in their application, TLA DNSS Scholars will be matched with a mentor whose research sits directly at the interface of Neuroscience and Society or with two mentors, one from Neuroscience and another from a non-natural science, who agree to jointly mentor the student on a collaborative research project. Based on the collective expertise of the faculty at Brown, Hopkins and UPenn projects will fall within several themes, namely Neuroscience and: Public Health, Ethics, AI, Economics, Law and the Environment.
