Teresa Ramírez, PhD, has over 20 years of experience in biomedical research. Dr. Ramírez is a first-generation Mexican American scientist leader who serves as a community role model. She mentors and inspires many students from coast to coast. She actively participates in the Latino/Hispanic community as an advocate for higher education and also provides resources and opportunities within the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). She is a Leadership Alliance Alumni, and she obtained a doctorate degree in Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology from Brown University. Dr. Ramírez has been a long-time member of the Society for the Advancement of Hispanic/Chicano and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), whose mission is to foster the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions in leadership in STEAM. In 2012, she founded the Brown University SACNAS Chapter. Dr. Ramírez is currently part of the Brown President’s Advisory Council on Diversity.
She is a past board member of Latinas Leading Tomorrow, which is a non-profit geared to provide mentorship to young Latina middle and high school girls to become college-bound and expose them to various college and STEAM opportunities. Dr. Ramírez will always be grateful for the many scholarships she received, which allowed her to achieve her goals of becoming a scientist and a leader who brings positive change wherever she goes. She is passionate about sharing her love for science and firmly believes in the importance of mentorship.
