Aloha pumehana kakou. My name is Nainoa Norman Ing. He kanaka maoli no au. I come from the island of O'ahu in what was formally the Kingdom of Hawai'i. After obtaining my B.S. in biochemistry at Chaminade University I have embarked on my voyage toward a PhD in synthetic chemistry with the help of my mentor Dr. Steve Townsend. My work seeks to uncover new synthetic maneuvers and techniques in the synthesis of complex organic molecules such as furanocembranoids and aminoglycosides. I am interested in utilizing tandem reactions to expedite synthetic strategies as well as leveraging the versatility and power of synthetic chemistry to the chemical biology interface. Through my work, I hope to help nurture and inspire the next generation of scientists.
