The Westfields Marriott Conference Center is seven miles south of Dulles International Airport and 35 minutes from Washington, DC. The Center features indoor and outdoor swimming pools, six lighted tennis courts, health club, sand volleyball court, basketball court and jogging trails. Keynote Speaker: Lydia Villa-Komaroff, Ph.D. Vice President for Research and Chief Operation Officer Whitehead Institute Dr. Villa-Komaroff is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Whitehead Institute, one of the world's preeminent biological research institutes. Deeply committed to the recruitment and retention of minorities in science, she is a founding member and past officer of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science. She is also a Senior Lecturer in the MIT School of Management, where she teaches and writes about the academic research enterprise. Students make oral presentations or present posters about their summer research projects to a national audience of peers, faculty and representatives from the public and private sectors. Speakers, workshops and panel discussions are included in the program which is designed to foster a sense of community while providing practical information about graduate school and career opportunities. |
