The Westfields Marriott Conference Center is seven miles south of Dulles International Airport and 35 minutes from Washington, DC. The Center features indoor and outdoor swimming pools, six lighted tennis courts, health club, sand volleyball court, basketball court and jogging trails.
Keynote Speaker: Vanessa Northington Gamble, M.D., Ph.D. Director, Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care Dr. Vanessa Northington Gamble is a health policy and medical education consultant with twenty years of experience as a researcher, teacher, and administrator in issues related to health disparities and American medicine. She has been on the faculty of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine, University of Massachusetts-Worcester School of Medicine, and Hampshire College. From 2000-2002, Dr. Gamble was vice president of the Division of Community and Minority Programs at the Association of American Medical Colleges. She has served as a resident physician at the UMass Medical Center and has published extensively in the field of medical history, including “Making a Place for Ourselves: The Black Hospital Movement, 1920-1945.” Dr. Gamble has a Ph.D. degree in history and sociology of science and an M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Her bachelor of arts degree in medical sociology and human biology is from Hampshire College. Students make oral presentations or present posters about their summer research projects to a national audience of peers, faculty and representatives from the public and private sectors. Speakers, workshops and panel discussions are included in the program which is designed to foster a sense of community while providing practical information about graduate school and career opportunities.
