Medeva Ghee, PhD, Executive Director of the Leadership Alliance

Welcome to the Leadership Alliance. I am Dr. Medeva Ghee, the executive director.

The Leadership Alliance is a national academic consortium of 32 leading teaching and research colleges and universities, united by a shared vision – to train, to mentor, to inspire, a diverse group of students from a wide range of backgrounds into competitive graduate programs and professional research careers.

In 2012, the Leadership Alliance will be celebrating 20 years of mentoring the next generation of leaders and role models, which has resulted in the production of nearly 200 PhDs, our Leadership Alliance Doctoral scholars, who are contributing to a diverse and competitive workforce in academia, the public and private sectors.

The distinctive feature of the Leadership Alliance is its core activity – mentoring across each critical transition along the academic pathway. The mentoring begins at the undergraduate level with the Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) which introduces students to the world of research based careers by providing hands-on research experiences at competitive institutions in the biological sciences, physical sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences. Ongoing professional development mentoring and networking occurs at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium for undergraduates, graduate students and doctoral scholars.

The steadfast commitment of the Leadership Alliance’s dedicated institutional leaders, representatives and faculty members along with the support from the federal funding agencies, our industry and private foundation partners has contributed to the sustainability of this shared vision.

Our strategic plan articulates a bold vision to move us well beyond the accomplishments we have achieved thus far into A Decade of Distinction.
