A Continuum of Mentoring, A Legacy of Scholars

Each year, the Leadership Alliance engages nearly 300 undergraduates in research experiences spanning all academic disciplines. These undergraduates come predominantly from historically underrepresented populations in the U.S. More than half of our program alumni have pursued advanced degrees. Of the 990 alumni who have received advanced degrees, 719 have completed PhD, MD-PhD and other professional degrees and 271 have completed master's degrees. Our alumni demonstrate the impact of the Alliance across higher education, industry, government, foundations, museums, education, and community services.

Looking Ahead

  • The newly established Alumni Association will initiate online networking, mentoring and regional outreach to strengthen and sustain the Alliance community.
  • FYRE, the First Year Research Experience, will engage faculty and coordinators from partner institutions to identify and introduce freshman scholars to research while contributing to the development fo faculty collaborations
  • Synergistic Network to Enhance Research that Grows Innovation (SYNERGI), will expand Alliance programming through skill development workshops and enhanced professional development

"The financial support that the Leadership Alliance gave me was crucial, but the experience also came with this wonderful moral support. You can try things out and have autonomy. It was incredible and what I needed most at that time in my life."
